Hard to believe it has been a little over a year since I graduated college and entered into true “adulthood”…pfft. As a first generation college student, I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when it came to the future; I wanted to conquer the world. There was so much I wanted to carry out, so many things I wanted to see, so many jobs to apply for – where do I begin?
I have learned a lot in the past year and one of the biggest lessons I have learned is that LIFE TAKES TIME. I have definitely had my ups and my downs and still found myself asking “What are you going to do the rest of your life?” and still ask. I have learned that post-grad life is a tough transition but it is an inevitable process that we all must endure.
Transitioning out of college was a little harder than I anticipated, but I blame the fact that being a Buckeye was one of the best experiences of my life (duh!). During my collegiate career I was always busy – clubs, jobs, classes, volunteer work, sorority, internships…you name it and you can bet I was involved. Being busy and actively involved with my constituents and local community was extremely important to me and still is to this very day. Because The Ohio State University provided me with so many opportunities to get involved, I was able to set goals, interact with hundreds of fellow Buckeyes, and make a difference. Upon graduation, opportunities are not as easily presented to us. Instead, you have to take responsibility and apply to jobs, seek out new opportunities, get involved on your own time and explore the world around you.
Year One has taught me some very important lessons and that life is what I make of it. I may not have all the answers to what my future has in store for me, but isn’t that the beauty of it? I have always known that I have the world at my fingertips but it was not until I hit my grad-versary that I really understood and appreciated that fact. The clarity came the moment I told myself that life takes time – it was like a breath of fresh air.
I did not realize how much I was dwelling on the things that I had not yet accomplished instead of the things I have accomplished. Over the last year I have experienced joy, triumph, defeat, heartbreak and more – but I still have the world at my fingertips, I still have all the opportunities that I make for myself; what could be better? With this fresh mindset, I am ready to continue my journey to accomplishing great things! I look forward to what the future has in store for myself, my career, my blog, my adventures and the amazing people I am lucky enough to have in my life! I look forward to continuing my journey and documenting it in hopes to inspire others!
Always remember that LIFE TAKES TIME. Go out into the world, accomplish great things, make a difference, inspire yourself and those around you!
I hope all of you had an amazing weekend and spent some quality time with your mothers and loved ones who made you the person you are today! It is really important to show your loved ones how much they mean … Continue reading
